“Hilwa Dyl Makina” Moroccan tea cookies

In every Moroccan house, you will find a box with this cookies almost always it’s like having bread or milk at home, a pantry staple, a necessity, a “must”.

They are so basic and neutral that we don’t even consider them as cookies, more like crackers to go with your mint tea

You will need a special cookie maker to make the shapes.

1 kg flour 

1- 1 1/4 c sugar (depends on  how sweet you like it) 

3 eggs 

1 c coconut (Israeli or Passover kind- dry, unsweetened. 

1/2 c toasted sesame seeds 

5 tsp. baking powder 

200 gram “smart balance” butter  

1/2 c canola oil 

About 3/4 water or orange juice 

1 tbsp vanilla extract or vanilla sugar 

Using the mixer, mix it all but the juice. Add it slowly   

The mix should be soft but not sticky. That’s add. Make shapes using the machine. 

Bake for 40 minutes or till golden brown (in 375).
